Sometimes when there’s nothing else to do, I’d find myself reading online magazines, especially when it’s about parenting and lifestyle. There are also those times when I’d stumble on some movie reviews and topics about the cast of characters that also leads me to curiousity on the latest hollywood gossip, yeah I know, it’s kind of too girlish of me to crush on Robert Downey Jr, but I also love to read about Angelina Jolie and Sandra Bulloch, they’re my favourite actresses. If you notice, the entertainment industry has become a big part of our lives, especially when you’re looking for a diversion or when you simply want to amuse yourself. Some people I know loves to read the gossip section in magazines as part of their leisure time too. In my case, I was particularly curious on the Twilight series that also made me drawn to following the latest tabloids on Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart, of course there’s the team Edward and team Jacob. I have a friend who likes watching hollywood movies and sometimes she surprises me with her knowledge about the movie and the characters who played it that when I want to watch a movie on dvd I’d go to her for advice what to choose. We also talk about hollywood fashion, now that’s more exciting for me, I’m particularly curious about their make-up routine and how they take care of themselves, like their diets, exercise and also their beuty regimen. Well, you can’t really blame ladies who try to copy their favourite actresses or if they find a really good character that identifies with them, like if you’ve watched Gossip Girl. A former colleague of mine even went as far as immitating Blair’s character, well that’s another story, but the point is that entertainment has become a big part of us and hollywood gossip has become a lifestyle to some.

Unmasked Faces by Noel Cruz (Picture Heavy)

Man of thousand faces is what he is attributed to, because of his passion for repainting doll faces, which he’s been doing for over 8 years; that is Noel Cruz. He was born in Manila, Philippines (now a resident of United States of America) and is also an artist. He remakes doll make-ups to make them more life-like, like a 3D animation of you. He repaints doll faces through the photos of people, mostly of famous characters like Superman, some of the cast of Twilight and more.

Noel Cruz became interested in art in his childhood, and this was brought about when he saw the Miss Universe pageant which he took into canvass and the rest, as they say is history. Years later, his wife and young son began a hobby of collecting dolls, and Noel took interest and started collecting dolls for his wife, where he discovered the art of repainting dolls while searching for a “Gene” doll. He became curious and soon realized a new passion. While clicking through his homepage, I just can’t help but admire the exquisiteness of his creations. Look at some of my faves:

Designs for the curious minds

If you’re a Nokia lover, I’m sure you’ve noticed and been impressed by their imaging and layout, especially with their commercials and print ads. Well, just a minute ago I stumbled upon one of the people responsible in contributing to Nokia’s success in the market. Janine Rewell, an illustrator and graphic designer from Helsinki (Finland), finds her inspiration from surrealist painters, children’s books and toys, bright colors and geometry of nature, talk about brainstorming! Janine’s designs and illustrations brings a unique blend of Scandinavian design and Slavic folk art, which is a result of her Finnish origin.

Janine has a degree in graphic design, and had studied in Rhode Island School of Design in the United States, and had the opportunity to work with several major brands like Nokia and Marimekko.

She has won a bronze Design Lion at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in 2009 and recently nominated by Print Magazine as one of the twenty hottest new visual artists of 2010, in addition she also had her first solo exhibition in Barcelona.

The wonders of colors

I have always been fascinated by the mixture of colors, the uniqueness it gives and the character it conveys once it’s laid down on paper, or walls.

I’m no expert when it comes to deciphering what a particular art meant. Some people find meaning to it, but I just see something different, something that cathes my eye and my imagination.

Pauline Sho‘s arts are really amazing. She’s a 19 year old girl who lives in Malaysia and is known to create beautiful art using Photoshop, she assumes the pseudo name LicoMomo on her arts.

Her arts is characterized by how she uses the mixture of colors, forms, texts and photos and each composition would look almost abstract, that would depict a scene or feeling, in a way it’s trying to convey a message of different emotions, almost enchanting! Her inspiration for her art would come from her music, books, and even her dreams.

Cute anime graphics

I have been looking for cute graphics for a new layout, something that would identify with this domain name, and I came across Hip Hop Candy. Created by American illustrator, Olivia Bruno (19), her art is inspired by the Japanese culture’s Manga and Anime. Her designs would come from the “Chibi” category (characters that has small body with huge heads) are cute, colourful and objects with faces and expressions. She also creates fan arts.

She created her website Hip Hop Candy that also sells almost everything from adhesives to buttons, accessories and jewelleries made out of pure cuteness.

Graffiti!

I was at the market one time and I found a Korean bazaar store that sells cute Korean Wall Stickers, and bought me two, I excitedly went home and plastered them on my “dirty” wall. I found a couple more that looks a lot cheerful, colorful and urban at the same time, but since I have to be wise and pick the perfect place to stick them, I thought about my huge dresser mirror and my lonely bedroom wall.

In other countries like the Philippines, Graffitti is a crime, but I think I’ve chosen the perfect place to do my vandalism, hehe.
